Every run puts your joints to work

Health library · Joints & Mobility

Muscle recovery and joint support are two different processes. Muscles repair through protein synthesis, within days. Cartilage renews itself far more slowly and needs different raw materials, which is why a dedicated joints formula makes sense, separate from a recovery stack.

How the mechanism works

What research shows about green-lipped mussel

Green-lipped mussel contains a unique fatty acid (ETA) not found in regular fish oil. Research in an experimental osteoarthritis model showed that green-lipped mussel reduced pain and cartilage degradation by suppressing oxidative damage and inhibiting catabolic factors involved in osteoarthritis. A human trial in postmenopausal women confirmed the mechanism: the omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA in green-lipped mussel inhibit the COX-2 and 5-LOX pathways, suppressing production of inflammatory compounds like prostaglandin E2.

What research shows about chondroitin and collagen type II

Where green-lipped mussel mainly reduces inflammation, chondroitin sulphate and collagen type II supply the structural building blocks for cartilage tissue. A review of available evidence concludes that green-lipped mussel has the strongest evidence track record for joint discomfort, while glucosamine and chondroitin mainly contribute to long-term cartilage maintenance.

What research shows about curcumin

Curcumin (from turmeric) is known for its anti-inflammatory action, but has one major limitation: standard curcumin is extremely poorly absorbed, less than 1% reaches the bloodstream. Enhanced formulations significantly improve that absorption. This is why the form of curcumin (such as C3 Complex) matters as much as its presence.

Why this matters for runners

Joint discomfort is often seen as an older person's issue, but repeated impact, like running, is exactly the kind of load where cartilage support can make a difference, regardless of age.

What's in Keanto Perform

Keanto's Perform formula contains green-lipped mussel, chondroitin sulphate, MSM, collagen type II with hyaluronic acid, and Curcumin C3 Complex®, the ingredients described above, in the context of current scientific research on joints and cartilage.

Movement that doesn't have to prove itself.

Note: most green-lipped mussel research has been conducted in osteoarthritis patients, not specifically in healthy athletes with preventive goals. The direction of the effect (inflammation reduction, cartilage protection) is well supported; the effect in active, healthy joints is less directly studied.
