What research shows about Cordyceps
Cordyceps sinensis is known for its effect on ATP, the energy molecule that powers every muscle contraction. A meta-analysis across multiple athlete studies found that Cordyceps sinensis supplementation significantly improved endurance performance, ventilatory threshold, and VO2peak, indicating enhanced aerobic capacity. A randomized, placebo-controlled trial in 30 amateur marathon runners found that Cordyceps sinensis lowered heart rate at submaximal intensity after eight weeks, and improved aerobic performance after twelve weeks of use.
What research shows about Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum)
Where Cordyceps mainly works on energy production, Reishi focuses on what happens after exertion. The same meta-analysis showed that Ganoderma lucidum supplementation significantly reduced blood urea nitrogen and blood lactate, while increasing hematocrit and superoxide dismutase activity, with stronger effects in endurance athletes. Lower blood lactate and urea point to less metabolic stress and faster recovery after exercise.
Why this combination is interesting
Most "recovery" supplements focus on one thing: reducing inflammation. Cordyceps and Reishi do something different: they support the process by which your body rebuilds its own energy and balance, rather than just dampening symptoms. That also explains why effects tend to show up after weeks of consistent use, not after a single dose.

Note: much of the Cordyceps research has been conducted in amateur and endurance athletes in relatively small study groups (20-30 participants). The direction of the effects (VO2max, lactate clearance, urea) is consistent across multiple studies, but larger-scale research in a broader population is still limited.
